This Week...

this has been one of the most unproductive weeks i've had in a long time. i've been sick on and off for the past couple of weeks, so that means that any time i haven't been working i've been at home on the couch trying to get better. i thought i was on the mend for a while, but out of nowhere i got sick again and now i actually think i have an ear infection! thank God for my wonderful husband who has taken care of me the whole time:)

i know colds and flus and the like have been spreading around lately, so i hope all of you out there stay healthy. here are a few snippets from the rest of my week.

* finally watched restless--can i please have mia wasikowska's wardrobe?
* attended my first etsy business meeting
*drank more tea than i ever have in my life-- that's what happens when you get sick i guess
*after two years, i got my hair cut! no more dead ends!
*finalizing my new blog redesign--so excited to have it up!
*finally got my hair in a beehive, yay!

hope you guys had an awesome week!

hearts,
sofia

Joe Chambers

if you are anything like me you absolutely adore your dog. it is a little bit embarrassing to admit just how many pictures we take of banjo on a daily basis. needless to say, when i saw these drawings by joe chambers i immediately thought of commissioning one:) aren't they adorable? if you would like to learn more about joe, just click here.

WHAT I WORE: SEEING RED

i have had this jacket/blouse in my closet forever and this was my first time to actually wear it! i had envisioned wearing it with a short, pleated skirt and black tights, but that never happened:) instead i stuck with good ol' jeans.

for some reason i have always been opposed to wearing red. i like it on other people, but it just never seemed to fit my personality, which sounds really strange i'm sure. but lately, i have found myself wearing more and more red! and i kinda like it! it's funny to see how much our styles can change over the years.

I Wanna Marfa!

so it is only january, but i am already getting excited about planning different activities for the spring and summer--roadtrips, camping, so excited just talking about it! did i ever tell you i've always wanted to stay in a teepee? or should i say...tipi:)

well, i'm not exactly sure how i heard about marfa. i think some friends had told me that they had been there to see mumford and sons, which i thought was a little strange considering marfa has a population of 2,000. well, it turns out that isn't the only cool thing about marfa.

marfa is also home to the chinati foundation, founded by artist donald judd, who has built amazing sculpture installations across its stark, west texas landscape. marfa is also known for some amazing eats, including food shark, which serves up an ever changing menu of dishes including banh mi sandwiches, beef curry over rice, slow-roasted pork tacos in ancho-cocoa rub, and brown butter cookies--mmmmmm.

i was planning on visiting marfa before i ever found out about el cosmico, but el cosmico is what really sealed the deal. its a lodging community that is home to beautifully renovated trailers, yurts, but most of all, tipis!

on fridays there are porchside potlucks with drinks and dominos, and throughout the spring and summer there are different scheduled events including a weekend songwriting workshop and all-night DJ set. i am excited that i we won't have to travel far to do something totally different and new. here's to marfa!

WHAT I WORE: COMFY COZY

i was barely able to squeeze a few good photos out of this photo sesh. every picture came out looking way too bright or way too dark. i just got a little automatic clicker for my camera, so i will be experimenting with that soon. hopefully it will make outfit posts and shooting for my store a whole lot easier.
this is what i wore on another trip to the coffee shop, what's new:) i think the baristas are the only ones who ever see me dressed up. i am very grateful to have racked up quite a few starbucks cards, so now I don't have to worry about budgeting in my americanos so much. by the way, does anyone out there get a headache from drinking coffee? i have what i guess you would consider the opposite of caffeine headaches, and now i am strictly decaf:(

Music To My Ears: Doug Burr

Denton is a seemingly small town, but for its size it boasts a rich, thriving music community. i feel lucky to live so close to so many great artists like midlake, sarah jaffe, and seryn. and i am even more excited to be moving to denton this spring to take full advantage of all the amazing shows, and for so cheap compared to all those super-venues where you can't even see who you're listening to, know what i mean?

apparently artist doug burr has been around for a while--he just came out with his fourth album, o ye devastator last april, but i just now discovered him! after hearing a song of his on the radio i immediately looked at his tour schedule and got to see him soon after. his live shows are just as heartfelt and entrancing as they sound on the radio. judge for yourself!

Etsy Love

golden ponies

it has been raining like crazy here the past few days. i wish i could say i was one of those carefree souls who enjoyed taking a walk in the rain, but it just isn't so. not unless it also happens to be 80 degrees outside too:) then i would be all for it!

not to mention, it also stinks having to take your dog outside to potty when it's raining. then he makes sure to really take his time finding that perrrrrrrrrfect spot. am i right? then the ends of your pants get all wet and i am forced to change unless i want to forgo curling up on the couch, which is essential to my daily activities as a couch potato! oh my, i've really let this post get away from me. here's to the sunny day we are having today!

Girl Crush

when i came across music artist nikki lane in W magazine, i had an instant girl crush. i am a sucker for the alt-country sound, i.e. ryan adams, neko case, and i would say nikki's music is somewhere around that category. her music has a nostalgic feel that takes you back to classic country, and since i am a romantic at heart, i love being transported back in time where i imagine myself sporting a beehive and wearing fabulous clothes.
lane is a south carolina native who now resides in nashville. her first album 'walk of shame' came out this september. i am bummed that i missed her on tour (always happens to me) but hopefully she will book more shows soon.

despite being so cute and stylish looking, in her magazine interviews, nikki sounds very down-to-earth, like you could actually be friends with her. she even has her own mobile vintage store, high class hillbilly, where she sells her own vintage finds while she's on the road touring-- truly a girl after my own heart!

What I Wore: Denton Date

last monday both lucas and i had off work, which is rare, so we decided to make the most of it and go on a date! yay for dates, especially when you are married! on mondays we usually have bible study in denton, so we decided to head out early and spend the day there.

i had been wanting to go to the mellow mushroom for the longest time. and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. so good! i got the philosopher's dream which had a garlic and pesto sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, and feta cheese, grilled steak, and sliced mushrooms! mmmmm! oh, and i forgot that we had spinach artichoke dip for an appetizer too. not the healthiest dinner, but it sure was worth it.
