WHAT I WORE: LA DI DA

the other day i got to hang out with monika and megan in denton. denton was supposed to be celebrating it's 133rd birthday (random, i know) by having some sort of birthday shindig, but it turned out to be more like any other saturday. which is fine, because i like walking around the square and peeking into random shops.

this saturday we wandered into la di da, a supercute store filled with tons of colorful and fun clothes and acessories. they converted the space next door into a sister store dedicated soley to shoes...awesome!

banjo and i decided to have our own little photo shoot. isn't he photogenic?

MATT WISNIEWSKI

matt wisniewski is a web developer turned artist from philadelphia. the images he has created below are taken from other images and manipulated with photoshop. sounds simple enough, but the results are pretty breathtaking. he has spoken of his work as being 'hauntingly beautiful,' and i couldn't think of a better way to describe it. i love the different textures and contrast created in each piece. if you would like to see more of matt's work, just click here.

HAPPY 100

i love it when i get to see people wearing clothes from my shop. lisa from the blog lalafauxbois was the winner of a giveaway i had on misskaitonline a few weeks ago. she chose the cutest floral blue dress. how cute does she look? lisa also has an etsy shop called paper planes where she sells her handmade wares.

it almost slipped by me, but i wanted to share with you guys that this week i had my 100th sale! i know that there are shops out there who have well surpassed me, but it made me really happy to hit that landmark. so how else to celebrate but to have a sale right? use the coupon code CELEBRATE100 at checkout and get 30% off your entire order now through the end of may! here's to the next 100!

THIS WEEK...

this week has been...stressful. i remember writing a post a month ago about how excited i was about looking for a house. my how things have changed:) finding a place has been a lot harder than i thought. i had this picture of this cute, old house in my head, and just how i was going to decorate it. i knew we weren't going to find something perfect, but i hoped to find a nice compromise.

it almost looked as if we had found the perfect house, but in the end it fell through--super disappointing. so i kind of feel we are back at square one. in the end i know this is just one more thing i need to trust God with. whether we end up looking for a place by ourselves or getting another apartment, we will be living somewhere else in less than a month! crazy! wish us luck!

this week i...
*went on a DIY kick and spent way too much money in hobby lobby.
*had a solo girl's night in and watched like crazy and my week with marilyn in one night.
*made my 100th sale on etsy--woohoo!
*held three different newborns. is this a sign?
*started a new book. my how i've missed reading.
*totally scored on a thrift store run.

ETSY LOVE: A LITTLE BIT OF GOLD

rich, gold pieces have been catching my eye as of late. i didn't have to put this collage together--it just kind of made itself all on its own. i can't believe i ever didn't like gold.

WHO I AM

something you may not know about me--i am easily discouraged. it's not something i am proud of. if i try something and am not good at it pretty much from the start, i lose interest. i wish that wasn't the case. i wish i would continue to do something regardless of how successful i am, or perservere until i am successful.

a couple of weeks ago i had a booth selling my vintage at a show. this was only my second time selling at this particular show, but the first time i did really well. i told myself not to get my hopes too high the second time--i had heard from other more experienced vendors that some shows went well, others not so much. but i couldn't help but get excited. i had collected a ton of new pieces, and i pictured them flying off the rack and people getting just as excited about them as i was.

unfortunately, this was not the case. it wasn't the shows fault. i'm not sure what happened. but my clothes did not go flying off the rack. and people were hardly excited about my them. needless to say, i was very very bummed. and i couldn't help but take it personally. i love the clothes in my shop--i take pride in them. and i spend almost all my free time working on my store. i pour myself into it.

but i took this setback as a personal failure. as in, i, sofia, am a failure. fastforward a few days and a few tears and i realized something. regardless of how my shop does, i am not a failure. why? because my worth does not lay in how successful i am. it lies in my identity as a child of god. that is what gives me worth. and that is something that will never change. amen:)

MUSIC TO MY EARS: POLICA

this might just be your new favorite band. singer channy leaneagh of the band gayngs teamed up with producer ryan olson to experiment and soonafter polica was born. i am a sucker for a good synth background, and leaneagh's vocals are heartbreaking and beautiful. check out this single from their first album give you the ghost.

WHAT I WORE: ALL YOU NEED IS A LITTLE LIPSTICK

it was a nice sunny day outside, and i actually dressed up, so i decided to break out the tripod and take some shots. we don't get very good light in our apartment (one of the reasons i am so looking forward to moving) so i had to set up right by this window.

have you ever had one of those days, or lots of days, when you just feel really unattractive? usually its when i've just come back from camping, like this weekend, and i haven't brushed my teeth or washed my face in days. even after we had been back for a couple of days i resorted to putting on lipstick one night just to make myself feel better. and you know what? it did!

i have never been a big lip-stick wearer. it's always made me feel like i am drawing too much attention to myself and makes me self-conscious. i have to tell myself 'hey, people wear lipstick all the time, even red, so you can too!' hence i have been experimenting with lovely shades of pink this spring. this day i opted for a nice dark magenta.

i have had this shirt for soooo long, but i love the little embroidered men and women on it. it has a couple of holes in the armpits, but i'm going to keep it until it's all out unwearable:) this skirt was for sale in my shop, but it sold a couple of weeks ago. glad i got to wear it at least once! and of course, these are my go-to sandals from urban outfitters. i swear they go with everything--i have to keep myself from wearing them every day:)

THIS WEEK...

this week has been all about catching up on rest. i even took two days off of work to "rest," and by that i mean catching up on housework and working on the store. the weekend before we had our scuba trip. i was a little bit nervous since i had a freak out in one of the classes before, but everything was fine and we had a great time camping out. at the scuba park we camped at there were all kinds of cool things to look at underwater like planes and buses. and now i am officially a certified open water scuba diver!

this weekend we went on our second camping trip in a row. but instead of having to drive three hours away, we decided to camp out fifteen minutes away. the scenery made it feel like we were somewhere else, but it was so nice being able to go back and forth to pick up canoes and drop banjo off at the apartment. we had so much fun! here's a little peek into the rest of my week.

this week i...
*found a new favorite thrift store.
*took tons of new photos for the shop.
*did some serious purging from our apartment--looking forward to getting rid of more!
*amassed eight loads of laundry in our living room.
*cooked for the first time in two weeks!
*got some serious tan lines.

i hope you guys had a good week! what did you do?!

WHAT I WORE: GREENHOUSE + OAK ST. DRAFTHOUSE

the greenhouse in denton is one of my favorite spots. the food is delicious and it's not too expensive. last friday i had the portabello mushroom sandwhich and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. i had a hard time choosing between the pesto spread and basalmic mayo...so i got both:)

after dinner we went to oak street drafthouse, a new beer garden recently opened downtown. it's converted from an old two story house, complete with vintage furniture, which gives it a very homy, casual feel, like you're at a house party instead of an actual bar.

there are dozens and dozens of beers to choose from, each poured from a locally glass-blown spigget at the twenty foot bar. i had no idea what my "number 18" would taste like, but it turned out pretty good:) one of the best parts of oak st. drafthouse is the huge backyard patio area. there was literally no one sitting inside when we went, because it was so nice outside. here's what i wore.
